October 15, 1919 - August 17,2016

We are very saddened to advise that on August 17, 2016, Wayne passed away peacefully with family by his side, after a very short illness. Wayne was 96 with all the joi de vivre of a person half his age. His wit and mind were as sharp as ever; his body failed him. He was born in Kinsella, Alberta but spent his formative years in Spruce Grove and Mayerthorpe where he met the love of his life, Barbara. Unfortunately the war called and Wayne joined the RAF, spent the war’s duration as a bomber pilot on submarine patrol. Upon his return, he married Barbara, and they started their life journey by moving to Lake Cowichan, where they had purchased a fishing resort. Living was tough for the first few years but with pioneer spirit and a never-give-up attitude, they managed to build a house and a life and flourish in Lake Cowichan, where they raised three sons. Barbara passed away on September 11, 1992, but Dad stayed in their house on the Lake until 2007, when he physically could no longer live there. He moved to Nanaimo to be closer to his family and lived with Peter & Jeannie. He loved seeing his 4 grandchildren and then later his 5 great grandchildren. He is remembered as a kind giving gentleman. He always took the time to care for others first. He loved golf, particularly Men’s night at March Meadows, and I hope that all who knew him will raise a glass the next time they are on the 19th hole. Wayne is pre-deceased by his wife Barbara Ellen (Sherwin), his 4 brothers, Gerald, Warren, Morley and Lloyd and survived by his sister (Sis) Lorna Fischer, whom he leaves to mourn with his sons, Michael in Courtenay, Roger (Jane) in Parksville and Peter (Jeannie) in Comox along with grandchildren Jennifer Losell(Lee), Tristan (Dara), Rob (Alecia) and Jonathan. Great grandchildren Emily, Ben, Claire, Marshall and Easton will miss their Grampa Wayne, as will his family dogs Odie, Bosco , Maggie and Cody A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. 250-754-8333
