BAUM, Alfred

September 25 1938 – September 20 2012

Alfred passed away peacefully at Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay BC, on Thursday September 20, 2012.

He was predeceased by his wife Raili in 2005, and brother-in-law Leo Ojala.

He was survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter Leann, daughter Kathy (Dan Therrien), son Wil (Brooke McGill), son Hank (Leanne Baum), his 9 grandchildren Kyle, Justyene, Kristina, Jason, Chantelle, Cory, Jessica, Diesel, and Rebecca, 4 great grandchildren Linkon, Zandon, Peyton, and Krissie, his brother-in-law Viekko (Linda Ojala), and sister-in-law Lea (Jim Jones).

Alfred was born in Germany but spent most of his life living in Black Creek. He worked for over 35 years at the Elk Falls Mill in Campbell River and during that time he made lots of friends, many from the mill, and many from his CB and Hamm radio.

Alfred was a man with strong work ethics and all who knew him found this to be true. He had a deep passion for his radios and devoted a great deal of time to his beloved hobby. He was generous with his workmanship and knowledge throughout the years in helping friends and family. In his retirement years he built many concrete structures, only taking time out for a brief coffee and cookie break. Alfred also had a great appreciation for music which

he shared with his beloved wife, Raili.

A private spreading of the ashes ceremony to bring Alfred and Raili back together, will be held for the family on October 6 at the place where the couple first met.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Alfred’s closest friends and to the staff of Glacier View Lodge for showing friendship to and taking care of Alfred for the past years, and particularly for the care and concern demonstrated in the past weeks and months… sincere thanks to each of you!

A Celebration of Life for Alfred and Raili will be held at Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay on Saturday October 6, 2012 at 1:00pm, for all family and friends.
