In Loving Memory ~ Alfred passed away peacefully at the Comox Valley Hospital after a brief illness.
Alfred was predeceased by his parents Leopold and Elsa Klara Neumann, his brother Gustav and his wife of 56 years, Elfriede. He is survived by his son, Harry and his niece, Linda.
Alfred was born in Lodz, Poland, where he spent his childhood; until the events of WWII and its aftermath forced the relocation of his family to what was then East Germany.
In 1957, he and his brother left East Germany on "vacation" to West Germany, immigrating to Canada in 1958 and settling in Toronto, where he met his future wife, Elfriede.
In 1972, the young family moved to the Comox Valley, where Alfred lived for the rest of his life. Originally trained as a cabinetmaker, Alfred worked as a carpenter at the Myra Falls mine near Campbell River until his retirement in 2000. In his spare time, Alfred loved to garden and fish, becoming quite proficient at both.
A memorial service will be arranged at a future date. Family asks that any memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.
