Andrew Smiley

SMILEY, Andrew

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andy Smiley, after courageously battling illness for the past 5 years. Through it all, he kept his quick wit and humour.

He will be sorely missed by May, his wife of 55 years and his children Aileen (Rick), Glenn (Jacinta), Alison(Randy), Graeme (Charlene) and his 8 grandchildren, Callem, Brendan, Taylor, Sam, Erin, Nolan, Drew and Iain.

Andy was born in Paisley, Scotland and after a few years in the RAF, immigrated to Canada in the 1950’s. He and May, settled in Ontario, raising their family and moving latterly to Montreal. He worked in the rendering business as a Comptroller and Marketing executive. His passion and skills for soccer found him both playing and coaching, bringing teams to Club and Provincial Championships and continued on through his retirement in the Comox Valley, where he coached both youth and senior teams. He enjoyed great friendships in the community including Comox Celtic Club and Comox United Church.

A poet, a raconteur, a Jazz aficionado, a loving Dad, Grandad and husband…he taught us well and timed his goodbye…to land a good seat at the World Cup.

A Celebration of Andy’s life will be held at Comox United Church, 250 Beach Dr., Comox, Wed., June 16 at 1:00 PM.

Donations to St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, 2137 Comox Ave., Comox, BC V9M 1P2 would be appreciated.

Many thanks to all the nurses at St. Joseph's Hospital, Dr. Konway and the many friends who lent their support.
