In Loving Memory ~
Ann Marie Greenaway passed away peacefully in her Courtenay home on August 23, 2024, with her daughters at her side.
Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband Derek Greenaway.
She will be remembered by her daughters Laura Brescia (Dave) and Karen Sondeno (Erick). Ann loved her five grandchildren, Shawn, Kaitlyn, Kyle, Gunnar, and Brodie. She was blessed with a cherished sister Rose King (Don), and a brother William Steen, (Peggy).
She is also survived by her sister-in-law Ellen Smith, nieces, and nephews.
Ann was born in Vancouver to Carl (Chuck) and Rose Steine in 1947. As a teenager she met Derek, the love of her life, and they were married in Vancouver in 1967. After their early years in Vancouver, Prince George, Campbell River, and Port Moody, they eventually settled in the Comox Valley to raise their family.
Ann will be remembered by her many friends for her generous heart, easy laugh, and her stubbornness. She loved the outdoors and the ocean. Some of her fondest memories were of being on the ocean with her family in one of the many boats she and Derek had during their lives.
Ann was creative, smart and a very hard worker, showing the world when she went back to school mid-life for a degree in Early Childhood Education. She worked for many years at the Cumberland Child Development Center with special needs children and also provided respite care for children and their families.
Ann found joy in community service where she fostered true friendships. She especially enjoyed her time with the Glacier Grannies and the Comox Hospital Axillary. Ann was active until her sudden illness, still biking, hiking, and gardening.
Many special friends enriched Ann's life. Of special note are Cathie Dickens and her late husband Bud, Keith Seguin, and Bruce Pilkington (Barb). She will be missed dearly.
As per Ann's wishes, her daughters will celebrate their mother's life privately together with their families.
