ANNA BORN

April 12, 1913 ~ April 18, 2007

Anna Born passed away at Cumberland Lodge on April 18, 2007 at the age of 94 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob (March 2, 1976), her parents, brother Nick and her sister-in-law Tina. Anna is survived by her children: Betty and Ernest and their families; her sister-in-law Elizabeth Peters and numerous nieces and nephews, their families and other family members across Western Canada.

Anna was born in Rudnerweide, Ukraine on April 12, 1913. Her family emigrated from Ukraine to Mexico and from there to Alberta in 1926. In 1935, Anna and her mother moved to Oliver, BC. Anna worked picking fruit and later in a factory, sewing, mending and making alterations. Anna met Jacob Born and the two were married in 1945. In 1948, they moved to Black Creek, BC. They raised their family and Anna enjoyed gardening and cooking. In 1990, Anna moved to the Kiwanis Village in Courtenay. While living there she made several trips to Germany to see relatives. She enjoyed growing tomatoes and roses in the small garden beds and pots on the patio. In May of 2006, she moved to Cumberland Lodge. The girls there took wonderful care of her and we would like to thank them. We appreciated their cheerfulness! Many thanks to Dr. Silcox in Courtenay and Dr. Helmer in Cumberland as well as Dr. Botsford for taking good care of her.

A Celebration of Anna’s life has been held.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Anna’s memory may be made to the Brothers and Sisters, c/o Cumberland Lodge, Box 400, Cumberland, BC V0R 1S0.
