In loving memory ~
With sadness, but in loving memory, we mourn the passing of Annette Elizabeth Moran, aged 86 years on the 17th day of April, 2025 at Comox, B. C. She is predeceased by her parents, Mary and Frank Newlands, brothers, Frankie and Roderick and her husband, Patrick.
Annette is survived by her sister Marie Hale (Robert), her three sons Colin (Kathy), Kevin (Sherri), and Sean (Kim), six grandchildren: Conal, Caitlin, Anika (Aidan), Morgan, Meaghan (Josh) and Josephine and great grandchild, Onyx. Nephews, Micheil (Shawna), Ian (Marta), Cameron, and niece Megan. Great niece Charlotte, great nephew, Lucas, Sisters-in-law Suzie and Tere.
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Annette came to Canada in 1956 and worked for the Ross family at Government House in Victoria. She started at an entry level position and eventually rose to household manager. It was there she met her dashing R.C.A.F. officer-pilot, Patrick Moran and they were married at Nelson, B. C. on September 23, 1961.
After their marriage they traveled to various air force postings in Canada and the United States, along with the addition, intermittently, of three sons. Along the way Annette's cheerful personality and gracious hosting contributed to deep friendships over the years, in particular her lifelong friend Margaret Luke of Edinburgh, Diane and Dave Oliphant and Gracie and Bob McPhail of Comox.
Their postings included Sea Island, BC., St. Hubert, PQ., North Bay, Ont., Big Springs, Tx., Ottawa, Ont., Petawawa, Ont., Comox, BC., Edmonton, AB., and Comox, BC., where they retired.
In the children's early years, Annette, a loving and amazing stay-at-home mom, also ran a home-based ceramics business, offering workshops, and producing beautiful and novel objects. As the children grew older Annette worked part time at the Wise Owl gift store in Comox and the Touch of Class Ladies wear in Courtenay where again she made memorable connections with customers and colleagues.
In retirement Annette and Patrick enjoyed their walking group, entertaining friends, international travel and visiting their grand children of whom Annette was deeply fond. Annette, Patrick, and the family would often be gathered, amidst much hilarity, around the fondue pot at home. Annette never forgot her Scottish roots and often amused family and friends recalling the "Scottish years."
In her later years Annette struggled with ongoing health issues and deeply appreciated the support of her extended family, her sons and sister and particularly her son Kevin and wife Sherri.
Annette very much grieved the passing of her husband Patrick in 2023, and we hope she is hanging out with him now.
Annette Elizabeth Moran a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend will be remembered with deep fondness.
