Garratt, Arthur

Mar 29, 1929 - Oct 18, 2006

We sadly announce the passing of our loved one, Arthur (Art).

He passed away quietly at home with his wife, Trudi and his sister, Peggy at his side. Arthur showed great courage and humor through his lengthy lung deterioration.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Trudi; sons: David, Carmen and Brett; sisters: Peggy (Margaret) Barlow and Alice Stretch of England; nieces: Alice (Kelvin) Kedves and their family, Josephine Barlow and Christine Barlow of England; nephew, Thomas Barlow of Wales; as well as many other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews in Canada and England, as well as many friends.

Arthur was born in England and immigrated to Canada in 1956. He moved to Campbell River in 1970 to work at the pulp mill as a pipefitter. He retired at the age of 65 and spent many happy years playing golf with the Sunnydale Golf Club. He enjoyed growing tomatoes in his greenhouse and doing his oil and acrylic paintings. Our family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Lundy, Dr. R. Potter-Cogan, Dr. Neil Wilcox (retired), the VIHA North area nurses, caregivers from People at Home, Joan Dryden and Brad at Airgas Canada Inc. and Daljit Dharwil from Worksafe. A special thank you to all of our neighbours and friends who have helped us through the last year.

A Celebration of Art’s Life will be held at the Sunnydale Golf Club, 5291 North Island Highway, Courtenay, BC on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 12:00 p.m.

If friends so desire, a donation in Art’s memory may be made to Sunnydale Junior Golf Program, contact Anne Newman or to the BC Lung Association, 2675 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC V6H 2K2.
