January 25, 2022
Art passed away in his 84th year, on January 25, 2022 in Comox, BC. He was born in Toronto, ON to Peter and Elena Karpus.
He leaves behind his loving wife Jean in their 58th year of marriage. He was also the proud father of Kim and Leigh-Anne (Dean).
Art adored his grandchildren Drew (Lindsey), David and Gillian and was over the moon to have recently become a great grandfather to his namesake, Beau Arthur.
He is predeceased by his sister, Lea (Ben) and was uncle to Brian (Mida) and Rick.
After high school, Art started working at Whyte Hook Paper Co (WHP) in Toronto. He left to serve in the Canadian military as a military police officer for 3.5 years, after which he returned to WHP. The company morphed into Corbeil, TB Little Corporation and then InterCity Papers (ICP).
In the 1980's Art served as both Treasurer and President of the Hamilton, ON branch of the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen. In 1992, Art retired from ICP where he had spent his career as an outside salesperson. After retiring, he and Jean moved to Rimbey, AB, where he started a real estate business located in Bentley.
Art's curiosity was boundless, and he never met a hobby he didn't like. The favourites that he kept up throughout his life were carpentry and carving. He was also known to enjoy the odd round of golf.
More than anything he delighted in the company of his family and friends. He was always giving of his time, exemplified in his 30+ years involvement with Lions Clubs International. He was a member of clubs in Burlington, ON, Rimbey, AB and Comox, BC. Art served as club president - twice - in both Rimbey and Comox.
