Barbara Frank

November 10, 2009

Barbara Frank passed away at Glacier View Lodge on November 10, 2009 at the age of 81. She was born on September 28, 1928 to Frank and Violet Howell and grew up on the family farm in Steveston, BC with her younger brother Jima. In 1947, she eloped with Norman Frank and moved to his home in Comox.

In 1960, Barbara returned to school and graduated from Courtenay High. She continued on to Grade 13 followed by a year of teacher training in Victoria. Barbara was then able to begin her teaching career and after six years of summer school, she proudly graduated from the University

of Victoria in 1970. Mrs. Frank was a well known and loved teacher at Brooklyn Elementary for 24 years.

After retirement, Barbara spent some of her happiest times at her home on Hornby Island, working in her garden, caring for her animals, and warmly welcoming family and friends. She travelled regularly with many visits to her brother in Palm Springs and to England.

Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and teacher. She will be missed by her husband Norman, her son, Kerry (Shelley), her daughter, April (Doug) and her grandchildren Sean, Michael, Katherine, Amy, Kelly and Emily and their children, as well as, a large extended family.

Many thanks to the caring staff at Glacier View Lodge and to Dr. Reggler. A memorial service is being planned for the spring on Hornby Island. Flowers are gratefully declined but donations to the Alzheimer Society of BC or the Comox Valley SPCA are appreciated.
