CLEMENT

Barbara George

August 22, 1912- October 31, 2008

Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on October 31st 2008. Barbara was predeceased by her parents Peter and Barbara McBryde, her loving husband of 43 years, Addison Roy Clement, and her infant grandson Tyler. She is survived by her son Danny, her Daughter Barbara (Bunty), and granddaughter Mary.

She was born in Cumberland, BC, in the McBryde family home. Throughout her life she enjoyed travel, golf, skiing, sailing, local performing arts and volunteering in the community. She was a long time member of the Bay Community Church, Monarchist League, Historical Society of Courtenay, Kiwassa and the Eastern Star.

After living in Cumberland for many years, her father moved the family to Courtenay where he opened McBryde Bakery. At an early age she learned to drive and golf, activities that she enjoyed well into her 90’s. In 1945, Barbara went to Vancouver to train as an x-ray technician at Vancouver General Hospital, after which she worked for a short period of time returning to the Courtenay to help care for her mother. Barbara was very grateful to have spent her life living in this wonderful Valley.

In 1949, Barbara married her true love, Add Clement. They made their home in Cumberland before building their family home in Royston. It was there that they raised their two children Danny and Bunty and became integral members of the Royston Community. In the early 80s, Add and Barbara moved to the town of Comox where Barbara resided until her passing.

The most important thing to Barbara was her family and friends. She always had a welcoming home and you could always count on a cup of tea, a cookie and some pleasant conversation. She was a devoted and loving wife, as demonstrated by her everlasting support of Add’s activities in the community and sharing many interests such as golf and travel. Barbara took great love and pleasure in caring for her children and especially her granddaughter, supporting them in their many activities and celebrating in their accomplishments.

The family would like to express their thanks to Dr Musgrave and his staff, the Home and Community Care Staff, the nursing staff of St Joseph’s Hospital and the members of the Bay Community Church.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 8th, 2008 at 1:30pm at the Bay Community Church, 1105 Pritchard Avenue, Comox, BC. Donations may be made in Barbara’s name to a charity of your choice.
