March 6, 1932 - February 19, 2021
Barbara Jean Terry passed away peacefully in her home, with family by her side, on February 19th, 2021 just shy of her 89th birthday.
Barb was born in Ottawa, Ontario on March 6th, 1932. There she met and married James Janson and soon found herself, and their infant daughter, sailing across the Atlantic on a military posting to 2 Wing, France. After a chilly posting to Cold Lake, Alberta and a return trip to Europe to 3 Wing, Germany they eventually arrived at their final posting in Comox, B.C.
James passed away in 1992 and Barb later met and married Ross Terry. Ross was Barb's perfect match. They enjoyed the retirement lifestyle, wintering in southern hotspots and eventually moving to Lake Muskoka, Ontario. Sadly after ten brief but wonderful years together Ross passed away and Barb returned to family and friends in Comox.
Barb had a great sense of humour and loved being around people. Through her years of work at St. Joseph's Hospital switchboard and reception desk and various community interests and volunteer work including St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, Co-Val, Filberg Festival and the Old Church Theater Barb made many lifelong friends. Sadly she was the last survivor of her peer group. Barb was predeceased by her great friends Jean, Ron, Ken, Helen, Marjorie, Lollie and "the other Barb".
Barb will be remembered for her friendly, outgoing personality, her love of laughter, her generosity, and her deep sense of gratitude for all of the gifts that life had given her.
Barb will be missed by her daughter Deborah and beloved son-in-law Paul Caughy and her grandchildren Alissa Wylde and Justin Caughy.
Barb is survived by her twin sister Betty (Peter) Crabtree who lovingly refers to Barb as her "womb mate" (they both share a sense of humour) and by her brother Graham (June) Johnson. Barb is also survived by her special niece Wendy and Heather, Crystal, Graham Jr.,and step-children Jo-Anne (Mike) Lawlor, Robert (Donna) Terry, Craig Terry, James (Linda) Terry, Heather (Fred) Dettling and Karen (Bruce) Pohl.
Warmest thoughts and thanks to Barb's dear friends Donalda, Martin, Val and Chris, Angie and Georgie and "the girls" at Comox Medical. Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Anderson for many years of kindness and caring. Your warm and reassuring manner was a great source of comfort to mom.
Barb would have loved to have had a celebration of life at her home in Comox but as she would say "You just can't be too careful with this damn flu that's going around." So for now we will remember Barb as "out gallivanting."
