Hampton, Betty

February 27, 1923 - June 7, 2006

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mother Betty Hampton. Born in Stocksbridge, Sheffield, England. Immigrated to Canada in 1926. She was a long time resident of the Comox Valley, recently residing in Campbell River.

She is predeceased by her parents Gerald A. Copley, 1961 and K.E. Dianne Copley 1982, both of Courtenay. Her only sister Margaret 1940, and 2 husbands Ed Hampton 1966 and Phil Frost 1990.

After a successful career as one of the first women radio announcers in Canada, Betty and Ed moved to the Comox Valley in 1948, where they raised their family.

Betty & Ed established the E & B Market after Betty’s mother retired in 1963. Later she worked for various local newspapers doing layout work. She volunteered for many social causes, including the local Food Bank.

She is survived by her son Jeff Hampton (Susan) of Courtenay, daughters: Janie Dyson (Geoff) of Campbell River and Jeri Wilson (Rob) of Surrey; grandchildren: Natalie, Layne Dyson, Dean Hampton, Nolan and Kevin Wilson, and Jennifer Kopciuch (Curtis) and their son, Betty’s great-grandson, Dhamon of Calgary, Alberta. Also 2-stepdaughters: Tana Legry and family in Portland, Oregon, and Karen Moser and family of Kelowna, BC; various nieces and nephews.

No Service by request. Memorial planned at a later date. Donations to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
