In Loving Memory ~
It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my Mom, on July 21, 2022, at the Views, St. Joseph's. She is survived by her only child Diane (Chris) Gage and 7 nieces and 2 nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, James Arthur Baker and her parents Robert and Margaret Gilmour.
Born in Nanaimo, Mom met her future husband while both were working at the Court House. Married in 1951 they spent 7 years in Nanaimo before Dad accepted transfers with the government taking his family to Vernon, Smithers, Lillooet and finally Courtenay. Mom was passionate about golf all her life starting as a teenager at the Nanaimo Golf Club. Mom and Dad enjoyed retirement from 1981 to 1995 living the 'snowbird' life in California and Arizona, always near a golf course for Mom.
After Dad passed in 2012 Mom continued in their home in Comox until she moved to Berwick Comox Valley in 2019. Mom's struggle with dementia during her last few years and a broken hip eventually placed her at The Views. She was always happy to see us and was content with her situation.
The Views offered compassion and wonderful personal care for the last 6 months. A special thank you to Dr. Wainberg, the Nurses, Care Aides and support workers, especially, Denise, Fiona, Jennifer, Mae and Stu. Also, thank you to Mom's roommate, Beverley Madill, who was always watching out for her.
According to Mom's wishes she will be cremated and her ashes interred next to Dad's.
There will be no service upon request. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
