Passed peacefully on April 8, 2016 after a long battle with emphysema with family by his side. Blain is predeceased by his son Robin Schmidt and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn Schmidt, son Rodney (Debbie), daughter Leslie (Mike) Joyal, grandson Derek (Justin) Joyal as well as extended family.
Blain joined the RCAF in 1957 and served until 1981. He was also a member of the Comox Legion Branch 160. In his leisure time he played fastball, was part of the Valley Dart League and enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved motorcycles.
