In Loving Memory ~
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) McQuillan. Bob passed away peacefully on June 7, 2022, in his home, surrounded by family.
Bob was born on May 15, 1945, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born in Manitoba, and raised in Coaldale, Alberta, he was a self professed prairie boy who loved farming wheat, sugar beets, and honey.
Eventually a family man with prairie grit and a sense of adventure, he moved his entire McQuillan clan to the Comox Valley in 1979.
Immersing himself in Island life, Bob advocated for his community through service work. As a proud Rotarian, and avid participant, he co-created annual community events (like Nautical Days) for 21years.
As a result of his longstanding community service, in 2012, Bob was awarded, by Queen's order, the Diamond Jubilee Medal, as recognition for his contributions to Canada. Subsequently, on June 22, 2015, Bob received the Citizens of the Century Certificate of Appreciation, from the City of Courtenay.
Along with being a man of service, he was also a man of faith, devoted to the church and who faithfully engaged with the congregation. His desire to serve, combined with his faith, fueled his drive to create a community that supported inclusion, encouragement, and acceptance.
He was a man of few words who humbly served the best part of humanity, manifesting momentous action of connection within his family, community, and church.
Bob was predeceased by his mother Mary, his father Jim and his brother-in-law, Doug McCann.
He is survived by his sister Margaret, his wife Judy, his daughters Tracy and Kerry, his son Kevin, his grandchildren, Ryan, Steven, Kristian, Kaitlin, Bili Be, great-grand-daughter Mia-Rose, nieces Rochelle and Paige, and great-nieces Nevyn and Shaylynn.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, June 11 at 2pm at Northgate Foursquare Church, Courtenay.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rotary Foundation.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Bob's life.
