In Loving Memory ~
Captain Vincent Edward Brown born May 8, 1936 in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
Vince Spent his early years growing up in Mission, BC. He worked hard as a lad, cutting trees and making hand split shakes, delivered goods amongst other ventures.
Daydreaming, sitting in school where he could see tug boats towing logs down the Fraser River, put him on the docks and in 1953 took his first job on the tugs. Earning his way up the ladder at Rivtow he became captain at an early age. This had Vince plying the waters between Washington State and into Alaska. He had a vision of flying for a hobby and he became certified for commercial, night time and float plane flying, fulfilling that dream. He loved all things mechanical and enjoyed fishing, cars, a good adventure, and was constantly reading.
A management position was presented to him for the North Coast as a relief manager in Kitimat, he then took over Prince Rupert division full time in 1969. While managing Rivtow Marine his division excelled. Always moving forward he made good personal investments including properties, a rebar company, a link fence company, and purchasing a crane company which he managed and expanded it to 5 cranes. He acquired half of the town of Alice Arm and based a fishing and adventure lodge there. 2009 saw Vince reducing his commitments in the north. He moved to Union Bay (Courtenay) where he resided at his water front home.
As a sought after consultant he finally managed to quell the urge to work and finally retired. He loved the sea and the world around it. The comfort of his home is where he could partake, watch and admire its beauty and life.
Through the years of dedicated work he found time and travelled to many countries around the world. He would typically end those trips at this place in Mexico to round out his leisure time.
Vince remained at his home in comfort surrounded by family and friends. May 11, 2022 he passed away at 86.
A sincere thank you to his cousin Mary, brother-in-law Roy, neighbours and friends Pat and Don and all those special people graciously helping out. Thank you to Dr. G. Hatlelid, Vancouver Island Health, nursing and support staff, Worksafe BC and everyone supplying support. Thank you to all the fantastic and special ladies from Classic Life Care and Palliative care.
Vince will be missed by his daughter Darcy, son Jed (Cheryl), brother Steve (Jan), many grandchildren and great grandchildren. His dear partner Vickie, family and friends.
He had many interesting adventures and if a person were to have half of them they would have had a very full life. How lucky we were to have someone that makes saying goodbye so hard.
May you have fair winds and following seas.
You will never be forgotten dad.
