December 25, 1935 - August 10, 2024

In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carol Ann Longland on August 10, 2024 at Comox Valley Hospital, surrounded by all her loving family.

As a lifelong Comox Valley resident, Carol was born December 25, 1935 as the church bells rang in Cumberland to Daisy and William Dawson. She was raised in Courtenay until she met Lewis 71 years ago. Together they raised their family in Comox and Point Holmes. They focused on building a loving home filled with special holidays and memorable occasions.

Carol had a great sense of humor and a giving heart, often putting her family and extended family before herself. She spent countless hours driving her children, volunteering at their many activities, and caring for her two nephews. She loved reading, crosswords, the outdoors, swimming, canoeing, and walking the many local trails and beaches. Carol was the bookkeeper for the family trucking and excavating business.

As a dedicated community volunteer Carol taught Sunday school, supported the North Island Figure Skating Clubs as judge coordinator and was the Treasurer for Navy League of Canada - Comox Branch. She was a life member of St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary.

Carol took on many volunteer roles over her 48 years with the Auxiliary: overseeing the Candy Stripers, taking newborn photos, working in the hospital gift shop, taking the tuck cart around the hospital, and in the cataract clinic. She enjoyed her time engaging with both patients and staff.

Predeceased by her father William Dawson, mother Daisy Hughes and stepfather Harry Hughes, brother David Dawson and son Nicol Longland.

Carol was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Left to mourn and cherish Carol's memory are husband Lewis, children Susan, Sandra, Shelley (Bill), Scott (Liz) grandchildren Jason (Mindy), Liam, Joshua, Kyuss, and Hawksley, great grandchildren Nicholas, Mara and Lila.

As per Carol's wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Auxiliary Society of Comox Valley Healthcare, 2137 Comox Ave, Comox, V9M 1P2 or Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation, 101 Lerwick Road, Courtenay V9N 0B9.

Thank you to Dr Swanson, Dr Thomas and Comox Valley Hospital nursing staff for their compassion and caring support of Carol and her family.

We will all miss her dearly,

knowing she will always be in our

hearts and watching over us.
