ROBINSON, Catherine Theresa

(born October 16, 1927)

Passed away on March 15, 2010 peacefully at home surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Cathie was predeceased by her husband John, her son Peter and his wife Deborah, and her brother Ted.

Cathie is survived by her daughters Beverly (Jim) and Terry (Don); grandchildren Jennifer, Matthew, Stephen, Donny and Catherine; and great grandchildren Jimmy, Ronan, Evan, Anneliese and Aurelia.

Cathie graduated from Kitsilano High School in Vancouver in 1947 and entered the VGH School of Nursing, graduating in 1950. She started her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, where she met and married John at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in 1951. They began married life in Quatsino and raised their family in Vancouver. Upon retirement, Cathie and John returned to the Comox Valley.

Mom, Mumsy, Nana, and GG as she was called lived and loved life to it’s fullest. She thrived on the West Coast life in every way. Sharing life with friends and family were her most favourite activities. Cathie was the epitome of a “West Coast Woman”, relishing her annual fly-fishing adventures at Saratoga Beach and time spent in the “LU Minimum” boat with John and, later on, her grandchildren. She was an avid reader with a thirst for knowledge and a scrabble partner to be reckoned with.

Always an involved member of the community, Cathie believed in putting others before herself. Cathie’s leadership and commitment to the Comox Valley Nursing Centre and the Canadian Diabetes Association will be greatly missed.

A memorial service in remembrance of Cathie Robinson will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation & Reception Centre located at 1101 Ryan Rd., Courtenay, BC
