April 5, 2007

HARTMAN - Clara Ann died peacefully on Thursday, April 5th, 2007, in her 88th year. Clara was born October 14, 1919 at Unity, Saskatchewan, the second eldest of seven daughters born to parents Mark & Frieda Millard. She was predeceased by her husband, Larry Hartman, whom she married in 1938 and who died in 1993. She was also predeceased by her sisters Fern Berg, Janet Valin, and Olive Heggedal. She is survived by her son, Stuart Hartman (Claudia) of Comox, B.C., grandchildren Juli Bennett (Jim) of Vancouver, Susan Kennedy (Brent) of Vancouver, and David Hartman (Stacey) of Comox, great-grandchildren Jamie & Kalia Bennett & Timoteo & Natasha Kennedy of Vancouver, and sisters Edna Milroy and Evelyn Moldowan of Lethbridge, Alberta, and Iva Beck of Cardston, Alberta.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Clara & Larry were partners in both marriage and business. They had a service station in Coleman, Alberta, then moved to Courtenay where they started an automotive parts and industrial supply business which they operated for 30 years, adding stores in Port Alberni and Campbell River. Clara worked hard and enjoyed it immensely. During her 62 years in the Comox Valley Clara also found time for community activities. She was very active in Beta Sigma Phi, served on the boards of the Fall Fair, United Way, Upper Island Community Concert Association, and was an elder at St. George’s United Church. Clara spent the last eleven years as a resident of Glacier View Lodge. Her family are very grateful to the staffs of Glacier View Lodge and We Care Home Health Services for their care, patience, and kindness. And a special thank you to Shirley Edgar, a wonderful friend.

A Christian memorial service for Clara will be held Friday, April 13th, at 2:30 p.m. at St. George’s United Church, Courtenay, B.C. with Reverends Ray Brandon & Dave Koleba officiating.
