YACUB

Clara Naumovna

September 22, 1907 - November 9, 2008

Clara Yacub died peacefully at St. Joseph's Extended Care on November 9 surrounded by her family and friends.

Clara was born in Mogilev, Ukraine, fled to China with her family when she was a child, and finally found a home in Canada in 1952 with her young son Ernie and husband Ernest. Her older son Larry had previously signed on to a tramp steamer in Shanghai bound for America. He eventually settled in Australia and raised a family. Clara often went to visit Larry and her Australian grandchildren, Natasha and Simon.

Clara got a job at Simpson Sears in Nanaimo, selling shoes. When she and Ernest moved to Burnaby, she sold shoes at Sears in Metrotown until she retired.

We want to thank the people of Canada for the excellent medical care Clara received throughout her life. There are few places in the world where the old and infirm can live out their lives in peace and dignity.

We want to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers at Glacier View and St. Joseph's ECU for giving Clara a loving home in the last years of her life.

There will be a celebration of her life in mid-December at the old homestead in Cumberland for her friends and family to share stories, pictures, and food.
