August 21, 1949 - February 11, 2019
Dales John Oliver Judd, age 69, of Courtenay, British Columbia passed away on Monday February 11, 2019. Dales was born August 21, 1949.

He grew up in Calgary, Alberta as one of four siblings. As a young man he became involved in the Calgary YMCA and Camp Chief Hector. His involvement with Camp Chief Hector was a driving force in his life. He graduated from the University of Calgary with a degree in Physical Education. His first fulltime employment was with the Calgary YMCA where he met his wife Greta. They married in September 1973. He and his wife had two children, Jennifer and Jeffrey. He loved being outdoors and was an avid cyclist, hiker, runner, and skier. He enjoyed long distance cycling trips going from Montana to Alaska twice, and across Canada with his sister Carol. They moved to Canmore in 1983 where Dales worked for the Town of Canmore as the Director of Community Services. In 2003, Dales left the town and he and his wife Greta moved to Vancouver Island to enjoy the more mild winters. There he worked as a school bus driver until his diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia in February 2016. From there we all started our dementia journey and three years to the day of diagnosis, Dales died with his wife by his side.

He is survived by his wife Greta, his daughter Jennifer (Jordan), his son Jeffrey (Charlotte) and his grandchildren Brooke and Emma. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He is also survived by his siblings Glen (Jacquie), Carol and Stephen. He is pre-deceased by his mother Hilda.
