David joined the Canadian Air Force at the age of 17, working his way up through the ranks becoming a commissioned officer as an Air Defense Weapons Specialist with the rank of Captain. He retired in 1990 after 36 years of service, mostly attached to NORAD, working both in the United States and Canada.
In his retirement David moved to Comox, becoming a member of the Comox Legion. David was a collector and had many collections, from wooden ships, to stamps. David loved to talk spinning a good tale over a beer about his collections, his military service, his boyhood and his world travels. More than one tale of fishing and hunting poured out for friends and family, often ending in in a questionable limerick that could bring giggles or groans.
A Private viewing and reception will be held at Comox Valley Funeral Home, Wednesday, September 23 from 11 am to 3 pm. Flowers gratefully declined. The family asks that a donation to the Heart and Stroke Association be made in David’s name. The family would like to thank the Comox Valley EMS and the Comox Valley RCMP detachment for their diligent work, dedicated assistance and compassionate attention.
