Apr 3, 1955 - Feb 11, 2018
On January 13, Dave suffered a stroke. He was cared for with skill and compassion by the medical teams of the Comox Valley Hospital and the Nanaimo General Hospital. Despite making strong gains towards his recovery, he passed away in the early morning of February 11.

Dave was born in Toronto and received his physiotherapy degree from the University of Toronto in 1978 . In 1980 he began his 30 year career with WorkSafe BC, in Prince George. It was there that he met and married Valery Wooten. They then moved to Comox where they raised their three children, Garth, Caitlan and Grant.

Dave is survived by his family, his sister Linda McConkey and his partner Heather Mathers.

Dave loved being outdoors. From swimming, sailing and canoeing, to skiing, jogging and riding his bike, Dave lived for being outside. He was in his element hiking and camping and he had a deep appreciation for wild, natural places.

Dave's sense of curiosity and adventure took him far and wide. He was equally at home trekking in the Himalayas and swimming alongside whale sharks in the Indian Ocean, as he was wandering the souks of Morocco or navigating the subway system in Tokyo.

Those of us who knew and loved Dave will remember him as an honest, caring man with an irreverent sense of humour. He was always more interested in hearing other people's stories than in telling his own. He has left us much too early.

When spring comes and the trees leaf out, we will chose a time to celebrate Dave's life with a picnic in one of his favourite outdoor settings.

We will send out word, and all will be welcome.
