David passed away peacefully at Glacier View Lodge with his beloved wife beside him. He was predeceased by his son David West Jr. David is survived by his wife Young-Sook; sons Paul (Margaret) and Kevin of Vancouver; daughters Cheryl of Westbank, B.C., Reiko of Vancouver, So-Young (John) of Courtenay, Jeong-Hyeon (Andy) of Courtenay and So-Jeong of Vancouver; grandchildren Janelle, Mitchell, Aimee and Danielle; brothers Douglas (Peggy) of Toronto, Gary (Willma) of Toronto and Bruce of Vancouver; and numerous nieces and nephews. David was a member of the Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders Alumni of the C.F.L. In 1947 he played for Toronto Argonauts where he won a Grey Cup, in 1950 to 1953 he played for Calgary Stampeders, in 1954 to 1955 he played for the Edmonton Eskimos where he won 2 Grey Cups, in 1956 he played for Hamilton Tiger-Cats, in 1957 he played for Toronto Argonauts, in 1959 to 1960 he played for Ottawa Roughriders where he won a Grey Cup and in 1952 he played the longest kick off return record in C.F.L. at 112 yards. After his C.F.L career, he travelled all around the world, visiting 55 countries and then became a teacher. He taught in Coquitlam, B.C., Grande Cache, Alberta, Yellowknife, N.W.T and Cumberland. He also taught in Ethiopia from 1988 to 1989 and in Mexico from 1995 to 1996. He moved to the Comox Valley in 1992 and retired in 1996. He played hockey with Comox Valley and Parksville Old Timers and he took up photography. A special thank you to Glacier View Lodge Special Care Unit for their excellent care. A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. from the Courtenay Salvation Army Church, 1580 Fitzgerald Avenue.
