Dave was born in Trail, B.C. and was raised in Rossland.  He moved to Vancouver and attended UBC, where he met the love of his life, Dorothy.  They were married in 1957 and moved to Courtenay where they raised their two children.  Dave worked as a Meteorologist at CFB Comox until his retirement in 1988. Shortly after moving to Courtenay, Dave learned to play the bagpipes. Dave was an active member of the Courtenay Legion Pipe Band for 58 years.  Dave taught Piping & performed with the band in countless parades and ceremonies.  Dave also performed as a solo Piper at many weddings, funerals, birthdays, and civic events.  Dave was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br #17, Courtenay, where he developed many strong and lasting friendships.

Dave was a quiet, thoughtful man, with a dry sense of humor, and a quick wit. Dave loved social gatherings and was always willing to participate.  Dave treasured his family and friends and was happiest when he was in their company.

Dave was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, in 2005.  He is survived by his son, Murray (Leah) of Vancouver, daughter Alison (Hal) of Courtenay, and extended family Gail Van Bergen, Jessie and Samuel Pridmore, Wendy and Kathryn Askew and Frank Burden.

Dave passed away peacefully on September 23, 2016, at the age of 86 at Comox Valley Seniors Village. Dave’s family would like to thank all the Caregivers at the Comox Valley Seniors Village, and  at the Transition Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, for the incredible care and compassion they gave Dave and his family.
