David George

May 16, 1941 – August 8, 2008


Dave passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving, supportive family after a long battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Linda of 45 years. His 2 sons David (wife Cindy) of Courtenay, BC and Christopher (partner Kate) of Parksville, BC. He also has one grandson, Brandon, of Courtenay BC.

Although he is predeceased by his mother, father and brother Sonny; he is also survived by his brothers Lawrence and John and by his sisters Shirley, Peggy, Agnes, Jenny, Audrey and Brenda.

Dave was born in Windsor, NS. He joined the RCAF at the age of 18 and devoted 27 years of his life to the service, retiring as a Master Corporal Safety Systems Technician.

As a life member and former caretaker of the Courtenay Fish and Game Protection Association, Dave enjoyed fishing and hunting with friends as well as the occasional beer and a joke. Dave was best known for his sense of humour which never failed him even in the end. He also enjoyed traveling and woodworking.

Linda and the family would like to thank Dr. Woldnik, Dr. Engman, Dr. Bernstein, Chemo nurses; Vanessa and Jill and all of the Home Care Nurses and Support Workers that helped us through some very hard times. We would also like to thank Ian from the Hospice Society as well as for the outpour of support from friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Life for Dave Purvis will be held on Friday, August 15th, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. from Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation & Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
