1927 – 2007
Dennis, formerly of Courtenay, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Greenwood on September 21, aged 80 years. He was born in Saskatoon in 1927, the youngest son of Fred and Hilda Shaw. During the Second World War, he served in the Canadian Navy, re-enlisting after the war was over. In 1956 he married Loris Ann Burke in Saskatoon, and moved to Victoria where they had six children. After leaving the Navy, he became one of the earliest employees of the BC Ferries, enjoying a long career. He retired in Courtenay, BC, and moved to Greenwood in the fall of 2005. Despite falling and breaking his hip the first winter in Greenwood, he loved living there. He is survived and sadly missed by his wife Loris Ann of Campbell River, his children Mike (Meg), John (Miriam), and Sue (Nigel) of Kelowna, Missy of California, Lisa (Pat) of Campbell River, Gerry of Cumberland, and many grandchildren. A Memorial will be held at his home in Greenwood, 206 Long Lake Avenue, on Saturday, October 6, 2007, at 1:00 pm.
