August 16, 1938 - January 17, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.
Survived by his wife Laura (nee Astrope), his children; Cecelia (Darcy), Carolyn (Tyler) and Charles, his grandchildren; Chad, Cooper, Alexandra, Sterling and Georgia, and great grandchild Brooke.
He will be deeply missed by his mother Cecilia, brothers Duncan (Ann-Marie) and Stuart (Beverly), sister Margaret (Daniel), brother-in-law Jim, predeceased father Gordon and sister Deanne.
Don was born in Red Deer, AB. In his youth he worked as a truck and school bus driver and on a farm. At the age of 23, he entered the Canadian Armed Forces as an Avionics Technician. In St. John's QC, he met his beautiful wife Laura and they married on November 17, 1962.
From 1966 to 1970 they lived in France and Germany. They returned to Courtenay, BC and remained here until 1980. In 1981 Don retired after 20 years of service. He moved his family back to Surrey, BC and continued working as an Avionic Technician until his retirement in 2004.
During retirement he spent his days golfing, reading, bowling, playing darts and watching sports. His passion was his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his big smile, warm hugs, and always being there to help family. Gone, but never forgotten. Always in our hearts. Rest in peace.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in Don's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of BC.
