April 28, 1932 - June 9, 2019
We are sorry to have to share the news that our beloved family member Don has passed away. He had been battling respiratory illness for some time but had only been hospitalized for the last week and a bit.
Don leaves behind 3 sons Bob, Keith, Bruce and their families, companion Delores and family, step children and their families. He also was close to a large extended family all over B.C., Alberta and Manitoba. He loved and was loved by siblings, nieces and nephews and all of their families. He always looked forward to the annual gathering of the clan and never failed to attend.
He worked in Camp 5 Bloedel as a logger and machine operator in his early years. Then he joined the Elk Falls Mill as a labourer and later apprenticed as a millwright. He worked there for many years up until his retirement in 1995.
In his retirement he was an avid fisherman and then later spent his leisure hours playing cards with different clubs in the Courtenay and Cumberland area. Don always enjoyed a good joke even if he was the butt of it.
Thank you to the numerous visitors who brightened up Don's last days and for all the care received from family members.
A special thank you to all the staff at Courtenay hospital for their kindness and compassion during his stay there.
A funeral service will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 34 South Alder Street, Campbell River on Friday 21st June 2019. Service at 2 pm followed by a reception downstairs. To be followed by interment at the Elk Falls Cemetery at 4 pm.
Brave he was. Brave yet humble.
To run with grace and to stumble. Not like me, I have to say
Yet we both sought God on our way. What is life, we all must ask. Chasing a dream, or chore and task. Some may see a dotted line.
And some may need God's secret signs. When life's past, what then shall be? No one truly knows, save God maybe. Seek the light, or shine forth yours For we must find that distant shore.
