ROWE - Dora

(nee: Woods)

Born in Edmonton, Alberta on August 15, 1914, Dora passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9, 2008 in Comox at the age of 93.

She leaves her loving and devoted husband Fred; daughter, Sherry Freake; son Bill; daughter-in-law Deborah McKerns and grandson, Jon.

A longtime resident of Victoria BC, Dora moved to the Comox Valley in 1989 to spend her time enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings of their rural property. Dora has a long list of lifetime accomplishments. During her working years she became one of the first female realtors in Victoria. It was during this period that she met Fred and they were married in 1963. She joined the Snowbirds Ski Club and hit the slopes on Green Mountain, Forbidden Plateau, Whitefish, Montana & Whistler. As a member of the Canadian Forces Sailing Association, she took part in many sailing events and club functions. During the summertime Fred, Dora, most of their children and the extended Rowe clan could be found at their cottages on Cowichan Lake. Time there was spent swimming, hiking, waterskiing, fishing, sailing, nightly campfires and sing alongs. She was also a gifted musician who could often be heard playing her mandolin and singing for friends and family. The music and food of her Ukrainian background were very important to her and she loved preparing mouth watering native dishes for many gatherings. Dora lived comfortably at home until her death where she was lovingly cared for by Fred, her family and a team of VIHA home care providers (many thanks). Dora never stopped making our lives better. She is missed greatly and will be cherished in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice. Rest now.
