JACKSON, Doris

Doris Gertrude Jackson (nee Heels) passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's General Hospital, Comox, British Columbia on October 19, 2010.

She is predeceased by her brother Blake and sisters Sadie (Cy) Ney and Helen (Don) Graham and is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Roe Billington (Bill) Jackson, children Nancy Greene (David McGee), John (Nancy) and Robert (Jodi), her grandchildren Charlie, Katie, Colin, Patrick, Jessica and Michelle, great-grandchildren Trent and Jade, sister Mavis Irwin, and her sister-in-law Isabel Heels.

Dot was born in Waubaushene, Ontario on February 16, 1921 and had fond memories as a young woman of music and dancing the night away when bands came up from Toronto. After graduating from high school, she trained as a Registered Nurse and proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy at HMCS Royal Roads, and at HMCS Esquimalt where Dot met and married Bill, her handsome young military officer who was serving with the Royal Canadian Dental Corps of the Canadian Army.

Dot and Bill and their young family travelled widely across Europe and Canada during his military career before finally settling in the Comox Valley in 1971, where she briefly resumed her work as an RN at The Fort in Comox. Following her retirement, Doris enjoyed her home and family, curling and bowling, and she was a long time member of the Comox Golf Club where she was well known for her golfing accomplishments and fun-loving approach to life.

Mom will be fondly remembered by friends and family for her love of life. She could fill a room with light and laughter, and she was never one to shy away from a good song and dance.
