January 19, 1923 - February 1, 2020
We are sad to announce that Doris May Betty Flynn died on February 1st, 2020, aged 97.
Doris was born in Thornton Heath, Surrey, England, to Frederick and Lillian on 19 January 1923. She served in WWII as a member of the WRAF from 1942 - 1944 and was very proud to be a veteran ...she loved marching.
After the war she became a teacher and later a Vice Principal and taught for almost 30 years in England. When her husband Jim died, she moved to Comox and lived here for 23 years. She loved Canada and the people of the Comox Valley, whom she found so kind and friendly.
She lived for over 9 years at Berwick in Comox and adored her time there with Jackie and the staff. Later on, as her health declined, she moved to Comox Valley Senior's Village for more than 4 years, where she was very well looked after and was happy.
She was predeceased by her parents and only brother Ron (May), and her beloved husband Jim. She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law Wendy & Alan, and her dear grandsons Murray (Ninya), Graham, and great granddaughter Maya. Also remembered are her family and friends in the UK who supported her too.
Thank you for all the assistance of the many nurses and staff at Senior's Village who helped in every way possible throughout her dementia, including the Communion ladies from Christ the King and so many others. Also the kind residents she met there ...they always had a smile and wave for her, and the Courtenay Legion, who faithfully visited and brought her a banana and chocolate bar every Wednesday.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
Her funeral will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church 1599 Tunner Dr., Courtenay BC on Wednesday, February 19th, 2020 at 11 am.
