In loving memory ~
1931 - 2024
Leona passed peacefully in the embrace of her family's love on December 14, 2024 at the Views in Comox, BC.
Predeceased by her husband Leslie (2010) and adored little brother Raymond (1939) she is survived by her family - son Mark (Alida), granddaughter Claire (Ben), daughter Lorraine (David Battle), step-grand and great grand-children Ian (Shannon, Max, Nyla), Paul (Minjeon), Jason (Lauren) and Alisha.
Leona was born in Victoria to Wilfred and Susan Blanch Hulme (Sherring). After meeting Leslie on a blind date they married in 1952 and built a happy life together with son Mark and daughter Lorraine.
In Victoria she helped Leslie in his restaurant (Il Buco on Cook Street) while pursuing her own talents and interests in arts and community services. She was a long time CGIT leader and served on the Board at First United and later First Met United Church. Starting as an arts and crafts volunteer in 1970 she retired as Executive Director of the Victoria Silver Threads Seniors Centre in 1997.
In 2009 Leona and Leslie moved from Victoria to Comox to be close to their daughter. In her garden cottage in Comox she thrived with painting, gardening and membership at Comox United Church. Her creativity, generosity and positive spirit touched many over her long life and she will always be remembered for making the world around her a better and more beautiful place.
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at the Views in Comox for the past two years as dementia eroded her memories and abilities but never her indomitable spirit.
Interment at Royal Oak Burial Park. In her memory please inspire a young person, give generously or lend a helping hand to someone in need.
