MACTAGGART

Douglas James

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas James Mactaggart, at 87 years, on March 26th, 2007 at home in Courtenay. Douglas passed away with his family at his side.

Douglas is survived by daughter, Joanna (Doug) and grandchildren, David and Erin; son, Ian (Dawn) and step-grandchildren Robyn and Brett.

He was predeceased by his wife Diana, father Robert and stepmother Gertrude Mactaggart.

Douglas served as an officer in the Royal Navy during WWll on cruisers and corvettes escorting convoys on both the North Atlantic and Mermansk convoy runs. His adventure continued in Abadan as a mechanical engineer following which he immigrated to Canada in 1948 where he worked as a chief engineer operating on vessels along the Mackenzie River. He and Diana were married in 1951. He joined Trans Mountain Pipeline company in 1953 and built many lasting friendships along with an accomplished career. He retired to Vancouver Island in 1982 where his circle of friends continued to grow due to his outgoing nature and undying sense of humour. His love of life was reflected in his gardening, photography and his respect for nature. We are truly blessed to have had such a caring and devoted father.

There will be no formal service.

Donations can be made to: B.C. Lung Association, 2675 Oak Street, Vancouver, BC V6H 2K2.
