Although we know she is now in a better place, it is with great sadness that we share the news of Dulcie’s passing. After a long battle with brain cancer Dulcie passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22nd. She is pre-deceased by her parents: Sebastian Francisco Lamartinho Coutinho and Maria Angelica Pulcheria Leopoldina Britto. She is survived by her brothers Edmondo Coutinho, Richard Coutinho, sister Jocelyne Coutinho, Husband Patrick Rogers, Daughter Meagan Rogers, Son Sean Rogers (Jessica), and her 3 precious grandchildren Sebastian Rogers, Camille Rogers, Gabrielle Rogers. Born March 15, 1949 in Entebbe, Uganda Dulcie came to Canada in 1972 with a single suitcase. Since her arrival she has been a proud Canadian and dedicated teacher and community member. She taught in the Comox Valley for over 30 years – starting at Lake Trail and moving to Vanier, teaching math and chemistry. Her love for teaching, dedication, and strict ways made her one of the best teachers, and her funny sayings made her a favourite of many students She volunteered for anything she could find, from Music Fest and Filberg Festival to Walk for Life, and had many friends from all of her interests ranging from Book Club and Aquasize to bridge and gardening, and of course all the parents she sat on the sidelines with, cheering for her children. Dulcie was an adventurous traveler and saw much of the world with her siblings and children, including living in Australia for a year on a teaching exchange. She was an amazing mother, sister, wife, grandmother, teacher, and friend and will be missed by many. Services will be held at Christ the King, with a Prayer service on Friday August 26th night at 7PM and a Mass on Saturday, August 27 at 10AM, reception following. In keeping with her fondness of education and fierce feminism, Dulcie has asked that in Lieu of flowers donations are made for a bursary in her name that will be awarded annually to a female in the Sciences.
