E. Joanne Rose

June 12, 1943 – August 25, 2021
In loving memory of E. Joanne Rose ~
It is with saddened hearts that the family of Joanne Rose announces her passing on August 25th, 2021 after courageously battling glioblastoma (brain tumors) for twelve weeks. She died calmly and peacefully at Comox Valley Hospice.
Born June 12, 1943 to Marjorie and Jonas Shepherd in Newmarket, Ontario, the second eldest of five children. Joanne is lovingly remembered by her husband Bill, by her daughter Jocelyn (Jamie), son Adam (Adina), sisters Mae (Bert), Ruth (Cal), AnnE, brother Bill (Joyce), Aunt Betty, Uncle Gord, grandchildren Gillian, Juliana and Zachary, and many nieces and nephews. Of course, Maddy misses her Mom.
Joanne loved to teach, once being assessed as a “natural teacher” by a supervising administrator. Her years teaching Kindergarten and Music in North York Board, Toronto Board (later TDSB) and graduation into administration, led to many lasting relationships among staff, students and parents.
Upon taking early retirement, Joanne commenced teaching English to children and adults in Taiwan, Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Mexico which also resulted in lasting friendships, many to this day. She also volunteered for Child Haven in Nepal.
Joanne also liked to sing and was a proud member of Celebration Singers and the church choir. She willingly gave of her time and talents to Comox United Church, Strathcona Probus Club and the Auxiliary Society for Comox Valley Healthcare.
Joanne was strong-willed, confident and known for her in indomitable spirit, her sense of adventure, her kindness and loyalty. A light has gone out of our world but she will shine brightly in the minds and hearts of all who loved her and knew her.
The family wishes to thank the Hospice Staff for their exceedingly kind, understanding and attentive care given to Joanne. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 21st, 2021 from 2 to 5 pm at d’Esterre Seniors’ Centre. Please drop by to reminisce and enjoy joyful stories of Joanne.
