Apr 30, 1925 - Jan 11, 2018
Ed passed peacefully in hospital, surrounded by family at 92 years of age.

Born in York Township (Toronto) Ontario to Edward Sr. and Helen (Moyer) Armstrong of Aberdeen Scotland, Ed caddied at the Lambton Golf Course during the Depression and thus began a lifetime love of the game of Golf.

At age 18 eager to serve his country he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served in the North Atlantic on the frigate HMCS Penetang. It was during a leave in Halifax that he met and fell in love with Frances Nichol. The young couple danced at every opportunity and as Ed was fond of saying "it was a dance that lasted 65 years".

In the 50's Ed worked on the Chalk River Nuclear Reactor and the St. Lawrence Seaway Generator and the couple had 3 children, Patricia in 1951, Beverley in 1954 and Robert in 1956. The Armstrong family enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing, camping and summer holidays with relatives in PEI. In the mid 60's Ed began a career in sales of furniture and appliances working for Danforth Radio, Leon's, Simpson's and the Bay. He was successful because he was a people person, honest, ethical and caring, often doing deliveries and installations for seniors on his way home from work.

He was a lifetime believer in "paying it forward". Ed retired from sales in 1990 and he and Frances moved to Courtenay in 1996. They loved the Comox Valley and Ed particularly loved the fishing and year-round golf. He lost his beloved "Nick" in 2010 and the dance was ended.

Ed spent his final years at Casa Loma, making new friends, enjoying outings and helping people. A life well lived and loved.

Don't grieve for me for now I'm free

With my love I've longed to be

I took her hand, I heard her call

I turned and bid farewell to all

Don't grieve for me for now I'm free

In keeping with Ed's wishes no service will be held.

To honour his memory please make a donation to the Comox Valley Hospice Society.
