Eileen Jemima Lehtonen (nee Woodruff) peacefully passed away at Glacier View Lodge on January 3, 2010 at the age of 87. Born November 16, 1922 in Sandwick (Comox Valley) Eileen was raised in Grantham by her Mom, Lucy, who was born in Ireland and her Dad, William who was born in the Comox Valley. Eileen lived her married life on the farm in Merville.

Eileen’s greatest passions were being a “Mom” and a Granny”. She was always there for her children, supporting them and making them feel special. She enjoyed volunteering. Eileen was actively involved in the C.R.A. She was secretary for the Merville Fire Protection Association. Eileen worked for the Elections Canada.

Eileen’s hobbies were swimming, playing cards, especially bridge. She enjoyed trips to Reno with Marie Randall. Eileen must have inherited the luck of the Irish from her Mom because she always seemed to return from Reno with winnings. In her youth she was an avid sprinter winning many races. Eileen enthusiastically supported her children in their sporting events. Eileen was predeceased by Larry (Olave) her husband in 2006. Eileen and Larry were married for 65 years.

Eileen will be missed by her 4 children Larry Lehtonen (Barb), Maureen Holt (Bob), Susan Douglas (Dave), Deb Booth (Jim), her grandchildren: Lorena Kronstrom (Russ), Michael Holt (Jennifer), Dale Lehtonen, Leiette Lehtonen, Brooks Lehtonen, Alisa Douglas, Brian Douglas, Alexa Booth, Dan Booth, and her great grandchildren: Joshua and Jenica Kronstrom, Bryden and Alexandria Holt and Brett Lehtonen. Eileen was predeceased by her grandson Richard Holt. She will also be missed by her sister Doris, brother Bobby and many other friends and relatives.

Eileen was a cheerful, caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her family. Eileen will always be in our hearts.

This spring there will be a gathering to celebrate Eileen’s life. Date to be announced later. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Glacier View Lodge for their support and care.
