Jan 11, 2018
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Eleanor May Pettersen on January 11th, 2018 at the age of 96.

Eleanor was born in Comox, the eldest of 12 McQuillan children. She spent her early years in Bevan before moving with her family to Courtenay. As a teenage she excelled at track and field. She attended business school before employment with the telephone company and the Royal Bank.

In 1948 she married Oscar Pettersen and together they owned and operated Peters Sport Shop in Courtenay. As a couple they enjoyed skiing, hiking, fishing, boating adventures along the coast, golf and travel. Eleanor enjoyed gardening and baking. Her butter tarts were the best. She loved spending summers at her Kye Bay cottage with family and the McQuillan clan.

Eleanor remained active and independent to age 93. After an injury she resided at the Cumberland Lodge where she enjoyed visits from family and friends. She could play a good game of crib to her final days.

Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Oscar (2010), brothers Murray in WWII, and Edwin (2011). Eleanor will be greatly missed by her daughters Carol (Jack), and Beverly (Grant); grandchildren Christine (Mike), Warren (Rebecca), Glen (Sandy) and Darcy (Brad); great grandchildren Kaylee, Nash, Brooklynn and Elena; her brothers Darryl, Warren (Lynn) and Bryce (Susan); sisters Alma, Viola, Doreen, Marion (Sam), Helen, Leona and their families.

We wish to thank the staff of Cumberland Lodge for their wonderful care, kindness and support.

Internment and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in Eleanor's name may be made to the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of hearing www.widhh.com
