In loving memory ~
Our beloved Mom passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love on August 11, 2022 at the age of 87.
Daughter of the late Herbert and Lydia Dolman, she was predeceased by our Dad, William (Bill) Gilchrist in 1992. She leaves behind her children Linda Gilchrist (Rob) of Courtenay, Janice Sommerfeld (Harvey) of Comox and William Gilchrist(Lori Ann) of Kelowna. She was such a loving grandmother to Janine, Ryan, Daniel, Sarah, Rachel, William, and lan and great grandmother to Rayna and Dylan. She will also be missed by her many precious friends and family.
Betty was born in England, immigrating to Canada in 1947. She attended high school in Victoria and was a proud member of the Victoria Girls Drill Team. In 1954 she was crowned Miss Victoria and later met and married the love of her life, William Gilchrist. His 30 year career with the RCMP had us packing up and moving to towns throughout the province every couple of years.
The most important thing to Mom was her family and friends. We had so many happy memories at the cottage at Kye Bay. She loved walking the beach with us, tending the garden there and visiting with neighbours.
Her amazing cooking and baking skills along with her gentle, good-natured personality made her so endearing to all that knew her. The Comox community will miss her generous volunteerism and fundraising for all the many causes close to her heart.
There will be no service at her request. A private family gathering will take place at a future date. Anyone wishing to donate in her memory, BC Children's Hospital or the SPCA were two of her favorite charities. Condolences may be offered at www.telfordtoneffboyd.ca.
