DAVIES, Elizabeth “Betty” Alleyn (nee Lloyd)

Betty peacefully passed away on Sunday evening, August 8, 2010 at Glacier View Lodge, with her family around her. Born on July 12, 1925, Betty grew up in Comox and attended Comox High School, where she was valedictorian for her graduating class. She went on to become a Registered Nurse in the Class of ‘48 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. It was a Powell River Hospital where she took her first job, and later met a mill worker, “Eddie” at Willingdon Beach. They loved going to dances together and eventually got married in St. Peter’s Church in Comox in 1952. They moved to Vancouver where, over the years, Betty nursed at St. Paul’s. Shaunessey, and St. Vincent’s Hospital.

Betty and Ed’s three girls were all born in Vancouver and in 1967 the family moved to Victoria to be near her mother and aunt. She was cheerful, loved life and was always there to help and support family and friends at a moments notice. She loved animals, the beach, swimming in the ocean, gardening, picnics, family gatherings and dinners and was a warm and welcoming hostess to all.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, Noel & Hartley Lloyd; sister, Vivian (Otto) Obermiller; and granddaughter, Laura Hubscher. She is survived by and will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Ed Davies; daughters, Diane Davies (Hubscher), Lorraine (Malcolm) Ledgard and Sue (Marv) Neufeld; grandchildren, Jonathan (Letitia) Ledgard, Heather (Jeff) Ledgard, Cathy Hubscher, Cassie and Caitlyn Neufeld; great-grandchildren, Emily and Aleyna Ledgard; niece, Ellie and nephew, Arthur.

A special thank you to Dr. Musgrave, Dr. Reggler, and to the nurses & staff at both the Care Unit in Berwick and Glacier View Lodge, for the excellent first class care they gave to Mom.

A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 1 pm, at Comox United Church, 250 Beach Avenue, Comox.
