HARRISON, Elizabeth (Betty)

March 27, 1920 ~ September 23, 2010


Betty passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She will be lovingly remembered by family and friends. Survived by twin sister Greta Griffiths (Chelan, WA), brother Jim (Jean) Greig (Nanaimo), sister Sue Mouat (Salt Spring Island), son John (Mary) Harrison, daughters Molly (John) Kewley, Joy (Bob) Coveney, Margaret (Dan) Thran, Fran (Mike) Hancock, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.


Born at home in Royston to Ted and Mary Greig, Betty lived for most of her life and also raised her family in Royston, B.C. She took her RN training at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria; served as Matron at Queen Margaret's School for Girls, Duncan, BC, and later returned to nursing in the Valley. She was a proud member of the Canadian Daughters and kept very busy with many other community and social activities. Most loved were family gatherings and gardening.


The family would like to thank Dr. Bakshi and the staff and volunteers of Ocean View Extended Care (St. Joseph's Gen. Hosp.) for their exceptional care and making Betty's last years as comfortable and happy as possible.


All are welcome to a memorial service, Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Church of St. John the Divine, 579 5th Street, Courtenay, B.C.


In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Ocean View Extended Care towards the purchase of a piece of specialty equipment in memory of Betty. Please accompany any donation with a note saying this is a tribute to Betty Harrison. Donations should be sent c/o the St. Joseph's General Hospital Foundation, 2137 Comox Ave., Comox, B.C. V9M 1T2 or to a charity of your choice.
