In loving memory ~

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Betty, peacefully in hospital (Courtenay, BC) with her daughter Shelagh by her side.

Predeceased by her husband William John "Jack" Rankin, her parents Thomas James McCurrie and Agatha (Pelot), her sisters Bernice Murphy (Joe), Shirley Lefebvre (Romeo), Leona McGregor (Alan), Goldie MacDonald, and her brother Barney McCurrie (Jean).

Betty will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughter Shelagh Kantor, nieces and nephews, James Kantor, and many friends.

Betty was born and raised in Ottawa, married Jack in 1954, and worked for the Government of Canada during the early years of their marriage. Betty embraced Jack's RCMP postings to Quebec, New Brunswick, and back to Ottawa where many good times were had, and lifelong friendships were made. Betty and Jack relocated to Vancouver Island in 2001 where they enjoyed many fun trips to the Wickaninnish Inn (Tofino, BC). Betty will be fondly remembered for her strong faith, grace, generosity, compassion, strength, hospitality, love of dogs, bridge playing skills, sense of humor, and the love of a good joke! Betty always made every occasion special and beautiful.

Thank you to Dr. Deborah Lisoway, Dr. Carol Galway, Dr. Natalie Comeau, Dr. Shannon Marshall, Dr. Trish Murphy, the compassionate staff in ER and 3D of the Comox Valley Site of the North Island Hospital (Courtenay, BC), and the paramedics.

Cremation has taken place. Mass will be held Friday March 14 at 9 o'clock at Christ The King Catholic Church, Courtenay, BC. Betty will be laid to rest with her husband Jack at RCMP Depot, Regina, in a private ceremony later this year.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Doctors Without Borders, Canadian Guide Dogs For The Blind, or charity of your choice.
