Elizabeth (Betty) June Duncan (nee Waite) passed away on Jan. 4, 2023, in the North Island Hospital Comox Valley at 1:07 pm. She had been living with worsening COPD for years. Betty was surrounded by family since her admission to the hospital on Jan. 2, 2023, and passed away peacefully.
Betty is predeceased by her parents, Bob and Peggy, as well as one son, Brent (2017). Betty is
survived by her sister Vivienne and brother Brian as well as four children, Keith, Kevin, Amanda
and Khael; and by 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Betty was born in Andover, England to Robert (Bob) and Margaret (Peggy) Waite (nee Hood) on June 18, 1940. The family immigrated to Canada in 1947, locating in White Rock, B.C. She eventually joined the RCAF retiring from the regular forces in 1961(retiring later from the Reserves as a Master Corporal). She married J. E. Phillip Duncan on Sept. 30, 1961, having five children by the time they separated in the 1980's. She had lived all over Canada including Rockcliffe, On., Moose Jaw, Sk. and Comox/Courtenay, BC.
Betty was a very active sports participant, joining several teams during her military career and while on bases after she got married. She enjoyed slow pitch, volleyball, broomball, bowling and curling; going to many tournaments and winning awards. She also enjoyed crafting, making 'rags to riches' dolls, knitting and sewing; nearly the entire time there were kids under her roof.
A Celebration of Life is being held at St. Peter's Anglican Church Hall, 215 Church St., Comox, on March 6, 2023, from 2 pm - 5 pm. Please donate to a charity of your choice, in her name.
