It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother and grandmother, Elma Brass. She was born on December 20, 1923 and passed away on January 6, 2016 of complications from pneumonia. Elma was predeceased by her husband, Bud Brass, her parents John S. Klassen and Sarah H. (Funk) Klassen, her brother Eddie Klassen, her brother and sister-in-law William and Alice Klassen, her brother-in-law Ervin Pluchinske, her stepson Mark Hamilton, her brother-in-law and sister-in law Ralph and Colleen (Brass) Paul and very recently her Aunt Laura (Funk) Geske.

She is survived by her daughter Janis, sons James (Patti) and Doug, and her grand-daughter Michelle. We loved her so much. She also leaves behind her sisters Mary Pluchinske and Maureen (Jeff) Stoneham, her brothers Art (Mary), Harold (Jean), and Ken (Jolene), her nieces and nephews, and friend Laura Charbonneau.

Elma was born to a farming family near Rosenfeld, Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg as a young woman and worked at Eaton’s, which provided her with fond memories. In 1958 she married Bud, who was in the Armed Forces, and they lived at Portage La Prairie MB, Comox BC, Goose Bay LB, Holberg BC, and Gimli MB. During that time she mainly worked as a cleaner, and spent the last 25 years of her working life as a cleaner at St. Joseph Hospital in Comox where she made many friends.

Mom enjoyed playing baseball, bowling and walking. She was good humoured, loved to laugh and made friends easily. During the last years of her life she suffered from dementia, but still loved life and her family. We were lucky to share our life with her.
