WATSON, Elsie Helga Matilda

(nee Wickstrom)

November 9th, 1916 ~ June 17th, 2007

It’s with great sadness, we announce the passing of Elsie at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Sunday, June 17, 2007 with her daughter Marie at her side. Predeceased by her husband, William Watson in July 1974, brothers: Gustav, Arnold, Trevar and sisters: Signe, Ruth and Evelyn. Elsie is survived by her loving daughter Marie (Ray) Roberts, many nieces and nephews who added support and joy to her life.

Elsie was born on a homestead near Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Campbell River in the early 1920s. As there was no high school in Campbell River, Elsie had to make daily trips to Tsolum School from where she graduated. At 16, Elsie, while still at school began work as an operator with North-West Tel/BC Tel for 18 years. While at BC Tel, she met and married Bill Watson. They moved to Courtenay where Marie was born. Elsie became a member of St. George’s United Church where she taught Sunday school, led C.G.I.T. and Explorers. She was involved in crafts, bazaars and teas. Elsie was a member of the Sunshine Unit, and an elder of her church. Through her life, Elsie was a very active volunteer in her community. The family would like to thank the 3rd floor nurses and staff for the considerate care Mum received. A special thank you to Dr. Naaykens for his compassionate care of Mum.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. George’s United Church, Courtenay on June 25, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Glacier View Lodge would be appreciated.

To everything there is a season

and a time for every purpose under Heaven.
