CARLSTON (nee: Robinson)

Elsie Kathleen

June 7, 1918 - November 29, 2007

Elsie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She spent much of her childhood in Pincher Creek, Alberta and had many fond memories of her early years there. She moved to Edmonton where she graduated from the Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. She married Dr. Constant Megas in 1943, they had two children, Marion and Brian. Elsie was predeceased by Connie in 1960, a very sad time for a young family. She spent several years working as a nurse for the Red Cross which she enjoyed immensely, especially travelling to out-of-town clinics.

She married Leslie Carlston in 1968 and at that time her family grew to include daughters Leslie and Christy. Elsie and Les moved to Ladysmith, BC in 1979 where Les passed away in 1980 after a five year battle with leukemia. Elsie then moved to Comox, she always loved the mountains and particularly the ocean. She worked at The News Rack in the Comox Mall for several years until she retired to spend winters in Arizona with her partner Ken Miracle who passed away in October 2000 while they were travelling to their home in Ajo.

Elsie was predeceased many years ago by her parents Gertrude (Feiller) and Charles Robinson as well as her brother Bill Robinson in 1978 and her son-in-law Ken McKinnon in April 2007.

She will always be remembered by her son Brian and daughter-in-law Carol Megas of Chemainus, BC, daughters Marion McKinnon of Comox, BC, Leslie and son-in-law Darrel Welin of Duncan, BC and Christy Majeau of Edmonton, Alberta.

She will also be in the thoughts of her grandchildren, Kevin McKinnon, Lori McKinnon and Glen Cummings, Thea and Craig Rawlyk, Deverelle and Jon Bradley, Kelsey Megas, Danielle and Marie Majeau, Glen and Lonni Welin, Ian Welin and Crystal Koglin, and Karen McKinnon.

Elsie had several great-grandchildren, Daniel and Samantha Oviatt, Keira Cummings, Selah McKinnon, Blake Rawlyk, Ethan and Hayden Welin.

She will also be missed by nieces Kay Torres of Calgary, Alberta, Vee Young (Charlie) of Vallejo, California, Barb Nichols (Neil) of Victoria, BC, nephews Fred Robinson (Audrey) of Priddis, Alberta, David Megas of Kelowna, BC and Joseph Megas of Vancouver, BC, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.

We would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, the emergency department as well as the second and third floors for the excellent care she received while she was a patient there.

Elsie was a resident of Glacier View Lodge for the past year and a half. She loved the staff there, our family will always be grateful for the wonderful care she received while Glacier View was her home. We would also like to thank the many doctors that supervised her medical treatment for their care and concern.

Our family will always miss her, she was the anchor that kept us all together. She was truly a wonderful person, a kind and gentle soul who will forever remain in our hearts.
