1927 – 2007
Eric, affectionately known as Darkey, was born June 16, 1927 in the Comox Hospital. Eric passed away suddenly of cancer on February 13, 2007. He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 52 years, Eunice who passed away 4 years ago.
Eric’s parents immigrated to Canada when they received the veteran’s grant. They settled on a farm in Dove Creek, 2 years later Eric was born. He lived in the Comox Valley all his life. Eric worked in the logging industry from the time he was 15, eventually becoming a faller. He worked his last 20 years in Woss Lake and retired in 1986.
Eric was predeceased by his parents, Sidney and Edith, his brothers Bill, Stan, Harold, Stuart, and his sisters Winnie and Betty. He leaves to treasure his memory his 2 sisters Elsie Hames and Norma Farmere, his daughters Sharon (Jim Meeres), Linda (Norm Swan) and Wendy (Arnie Remmen), his grandchildren Michelle, Michael, Ryan, Brent, Kelly, Owen Jared, Tyson and great-grandchildren Jaymee, Justin, Chanelle and Savanah. Eric was so proud of his grandchildren, they brought so much joy and love to his life. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and good friends.
Eric will be remembered as an avid gardener, he loved to camp with his family and friends. He loved fishing, hunting, and playing cards. He was an active member of the Elks Club for many years. Eric kept his sense of humor right to the end giving his caring nurses a good chuckle. Most of all Eric will be remembered as a kind, generous man who loved life, and loved his family very much.
A Celebration of Eric’s life will be held February 17th at 3:00pm at Piercy’s Funeral Chapel in Courtenay. in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society.
