Smith, Ersul Fay

September 19, 1916 - July 29, 2006

Ersul was predeceased by his wife Edna and two brothers Glen & Bud Smith and his sister Bea Rymal. He is survived by his daughter Dianne & Tony Cocking, grandson Colin & Jessie Cocking of Victoria, BC. He is also survived by his sister Iris Dryden of Parksville, BC and her children: John, Debbie (Len) and Joey along with 2 grandchildren Sean and Tanya. Sister-in-law Marion Smith and nephews: Laurie (Debbie) and Terry (Fiona). Brother-in-law Joe Rymal (Dorothy) and niece Janet (Harvey) Hodgins.

Ersul was born in Pennent, Saskatchewan and passed away at his home of 35 years in Campbell River, B.C. Before settling in Campbell River he served in the Royal Canadian Army overseas in World War II for 3 1/2 years at which time he endured many hardships. After the war he married and moved to Hay River, Great Slave Lake where he managed Alaska Fisheries for 10 years. Until retiring he was an entrepreneur, starting and selling many businesses. During his retirement his greatest interests were traveling to many parts of the world and playing cards at the Legion and Eagles with his many many friends whom he considered as family.

At this time, the family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Paul Brown and the nursing staff at the Campbell River General Hospital, and to his friends and neighbours, especially Joyce Nustad & Wayne Sobkowicz, Ginny & George Raga, Jack & Ella Schibler, Ray & Audrey Brennan and Frank Tortora for their friendship, care and kindness over the years.

There will be no funeral by his request. Ersul will be buried beside his wife on Mission Hill in Courtenay Civic Cemetery.

A Family Memorial will be celebrated at a later date.

Just a thought of sweet remembrance

Just a memory sad and true

Just the love and sweet devotion

Of one who thinks of you

Our family circle has been broken.

A link gone from our chain

But though we’re parted for a while

We know we’ll meet again.
